Creative sustainability

Where ecology meets media, making, and design

Not every learner walks into a garden excited. Creative sustainability gives them another door: cameras, sensors, textiles, and tools that turn environmental learning into something they want to share.

Why it matters

Stories keep gardens alive

A garden that nobody documents fades between seasons. When learners tell its story, the project builds an audience, recruits volunteers, attracts funders, and outlasts any single class or cohort.

Creative sustainability also builds transferable skills — media production, data literacy, design thinking, and communication — that show up on portfolios, in CTE pathways, and in early career work.

Tracks

Four creative pathways

EcoTech education

Soil moisture and weather sensors, data logging, simple dashboards, and mapping — learners measure their site and make decisions from real numbers.

Digital garden storytelling

Photo, video, audio, and social storytelling that documents a season of growth and gives participants a public voice for their campus or community garden.

Sustainable fashion education

Textile waste, natural dyeing with garden plants, repair and mending, and redesign projects that connect wardrobes to ecosystems.

Upcycling & maker workshops

Turning discarded material into garden infrastructure, signage, planters, and art — waste literacy through making.
